Out of the Park Performance

A Student Story brought to you by Gabriel Paz, San Miguel Sophomore.

San Miguel Sophomore pitcher and catcher Diego Morales gave an outstanding performance against Palo Verde during the Bisbee Baseball Spring Tournament, with 4 stolen bases and an in-the-field grand slam. This performance put him among the best high school players in Arizona for Week 4 of the high school baseball season, according to a list compiled by popular Arizona sports news website, azcentral.com.

“A lot of teams were stacked compared to us, so it was important for me to get runs on the board anyway I could,” said Morales.

Over the course of the game, Morales stole 4 total bases, including home. Even after this impressive performance, his grand slam was the highlight of the game against Palo Verde. “… the team loved it you know…” was the response Diego gave when asked about the team’s reaction to his grand slam. This game was San Miguel’s first win of the season. Morales is optimistic about replicating this performance for the rest of the season, if the team continues to put in work at practice and work together as they have been.

“I feel like if we continue to put quality work in at practice and on the field, we as a team can continue moving forward successfully throughout the season,” said Morales.
