Letter from the President & CEO: June 25,2022

This year’s graduation was an incredibly memorable day as we celebrated San Miguel’s class of 2022. The messages from our salutatorian, Emilio Barbon, our valedictorian, Illiana Samorano, and this year’s commencement speaker, Adonis Trujillo (San Miguel class of 2009), were beautifully interwoven.

Emilio began the program by using the description of an acrylic painting that starts as a blank canvas and is slowly transformed into a beautiful landscape, as a metaphor for the way young students are formed through their interactions with many caring adults during their time at San Miguel.

Adonis reminisced about the way he felt thirteen years ago when he graduated from San Miguel. He pointed out that, despite the growth and changes that have occurred since that time, San Miguel’s enduring commitment to the students demonstrated by the care, compassion, assurance, and support has remained constant. Adonis continues to witness this commitment as a member of the San Miguel Board of Trustees. Using the image of ripples from a stone dropped in a pond, Adonis described how members of the Class of 2022 can create positive change in their local communities, as he does in his role at Microsoft.

San Miguel’s valedictorian, Iliana Samorano, expressed her gratitude for the 500-year legacy of John Baptist De La Salle’s commitment to providing a human and Christian education that provided her an educational opportunity that she never dreamed of. In keeping with San Miguel’s “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve” motto, Iliana also expressed her commitment to be the change she wants to see.

Dear San Miguel Community,

The Class of 2022 has a lot to be proud of. During their time at San Miguel, these graduates have taken on college-prep academics in addition to overcoming hurdles with online learning, disruptions in work-study going remote, and all the pressure that come with growing up in these charged times.
