FirstTech Challenge Tournament - December 17 - Volunteers needed!

Adult Volunteers Needed!

San Miguel High School is hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Tournament on Saturday, December 17th at San Miguel. This tournament is just one small part of a worldwide FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) series of competitions. Teams doing well in the Tucson tournament will move on to state level championships.

We are in need of volunteers for the event and are looking to our San Miguel Corporate Sponsors and Tucson Community Members to help out.

Most of the jobs require a full day commitment on Saturday. Robot inspectors are needed both Friday night and Saturday morning. If you cannot commit to the full day but would like to volunteer, please email me and I will direct you to shorter time jobs. I have a large list of volunteer opportunities. Those listed below have an age requirement of 21 or above.

The commitment would also include creating an account with FIRST, registering as a volunteer, complete a “youth protection screening” (for those over 18) and complete on-line training/certification (depending on your volunteer position.) The registration and training times vary depending on the role.

Positions/number of people where volunteer help is needed include:

Job descriptions can be found here: https://www.firstinspires.org/sites/default/files/uploads/resource_library/ftc/ftc-volunteer-role-descriptions.pdf

Don’t be worried if the job looks complex. We will have people there to help you.

Please consider helping! This is a great way to bring together students, professionals, businesses and organizations that form our Tucson community.

Please email Brother Jack Henderson, Volunteer Coordinator  brojack@sanmiguelhigh.org as soon as possible if you have questions.

If you want to get started immediately: All volunteers need to create an account with FIRST at www.firstinspires.org (click on the volunteer tab and then the create account button under the login).

Once logged in at your dashboard, please click on event volunteering. Please choose the AZ Diamondback - Tucson Qualifier (use filters: First Tech Challenge, United States, Arizona).

Please complete that application. If you are under 18 you need to invite your parents, they need to create an account and give consent for you (or pick up paper consent forms from Brother Jack). If you are over 18 you need to complete the Youth Protection Screening.

Job descriptions are included with this email. Once the application is completed, both you and I will get a confirmation email.

Please email or phone me (559) 779-4555 with any questions or complications with the process.

Once again, we are very grateful for your help!
