Staff Spotlight: Ms. Marie Reyna, Vice President of Advancement

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Marie Reyna as San Miguel's Vice President of Advancement!

Marie Reyna is a native Tucsonan. Her family has lived in Tucson for multiple generations -- even prior to AZ becoming a state! She graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School and the University of Arizona and is the proud mom of two incredible sons.

Marie's educational background is in Clinical Psychology and Family Studies.

Her career experience brings depth and breadth to San Miguel. After a couple of decades of being a psychotherapist, Marie decided to pursue her love of helping others via leadership. Her work history is one of mission focused service, and her volunteer activities reflect the same.

At Catholic Community Services, she served as the Associate Director of Child Welfare programs for Pima and Pinal Counties, then moved on to Director of Development at St Luke's Home. Marie is very pleased to be here at San Miguel as the new Vice President of Advancement. She extends a warm hello and an invitation to meet with her, and notes you should not be surprised if she is already gushing over the students here at San Miguel High School.

Q: What are you most excited about working at SMHS?

A:  I began learning of the mission of San Miguel, and I was so impressed with what is being done here I wanted to be a part of making positive changes for the lives of students and their families. I also heard the faculty and staff are a great team which spoke to me of a great organizational culture, united in purpose.

Q: What is one goal you have for the future of SMHS?

A: The overarching goal is always student centered. I would like a strong PTA, a strong San Miguel Foundation and a strong endowment fund enabling any student past, present, or future, who would like to enjoy the benefits of what San Miguel High School offers. I want to continue in partnership with the community to recognize the treasure of San Miguel and lend support.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to your high school aged self, what would it be?

A:  Be kinder to yourself. You really don’t have to try be perfect or liked by everyone. It’s ok, just stay kind. Although you can be both, kind is way better than cool and even when life doesn’t feel fair… it’s still beautiful and you are strong! Enjoy the adventure and be faithful to God.

Q: What are three words or phrases you'd use to describe yourself?

A: Critical thinker, hard working, and compassionate
