El Otro Lado ~ Border Immersion Program for Lasallian High Schools

From January 8-13, San Miguel High School hosted students from Cathedral High School Los Angeles *(CHSLA)
for the first El Otro Lado program since before the pandemic started.

Lasallian students from CHSLA and one of our students were housed at the new El Otro Lado house a few minutes from campus.

Over the course of the week, students met with leaders involved in programs connected to border and immigration issues.

Participants came away with a deeper understanding of the complex issues beyond what is captured in mainstream news and sound-bites.

Rocio Cervantes
In addition to a house specifically designated to accommodate visitors for this unique opportunity, San Miguel High School has also hired a Director for the El Otro Lado program.

Rocio Cervantes put in an immense amount of hard work to assemble this distinctive program, which will be offered to five additional schools over the course of the semester.

We are excited about the wonderful work she is doing in bringing back this program for our partner Lasallian schools and our students.

We welcome Rocio, and the students from Cathedral High School for this successful first EOL visit, and the learning and enlightenment of the participants!
