The College Counseling Program at SMHS
The College Counseling department provides a comprehensive guidance program that assists students, many of whom will be the first in their families to graduate from college, in making a successful transition into post-secondary education. During their junior and senior years, students have protected class time during which they are guided through the process of applying to multiple colleges and universities. One-on-one meetings are held to familiarize families with options for financing college and to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
At each grade level, students visit a local university and are encouraged to apply to college summer programs around the country. These trips allow students to explore new interests, experience dorm life, and gain a sense of which schools might “fit” them.
Thank you Ms. Karan Stewart (College Counselor) and Ms. Racheal Bailey (Alumni Support Advisor) for supporting SMHS students to and through college! |
