Team Venom and Viper Robotics Tournament Recap

Congratulations to our robotics Team Viper who finished the qualifying matches in 2nd and were victors in the semi-finals. Although they had a strong showing in the finals they ended up in second place. They were one of the first three teams in Arizona to qualify for the state tournament which means that our robotics team is going to state for the 8th year in a row. They also won the connect award for their outreach to our technical communities. Congratulations Team Viper!

Members involved: Brother Jack Henderson, Demian Quiroz, Alejandra B., Jackson G., Jezrael M., Sebastian M, Sophia C.

Team Viper drove up the day before through the Salt River Canyon to Show Low High School where 14 teams from Arizona competed in one of two FTC Qualifiers the weekend of Nov. 18. Eight teams did not show up due to weather and just not being ready, though many teams showed up and were not “ready.”

Brother Jack was one of two lead Robot Inspectors to get teams up to code. Everyone spread out and helped the other teams with whatever they needed, including spare parts, hardware, and expertise. Demian Quiroz was a referee for matches not involving Team Viper.

In 18 qualifying matches, Team Viper ranked 2nd with a 4:1 record. They made it to the Semi-Finals as captains of their alliance, and went on to win semi-finals 2:1.

In the Finals, they lost both matches, taking home a Finalist trophy for their school.

They also took home the Connect Award, for reaching out to the technical communities within Tucson, and the 2nd place in the coveted Inspire Award, which earned them a berth at state.
