A visit to the Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity

The second-semester senior theology class is Christian Spirituality. The students read a variety of books and the Lasallian Reflections. In reading and reflecting on the books, the students can choose different ways to respond to what the author is writing. In reading Pope Francis, Christus Vivit, An Exhortation to Young People, many students responded to his chapter regarding their vocation.

Six young women wrote that they have/are considering becoming a Sister. Five young men responded that they were considering becoming brothers. As a result, Sister Mary Ann invited the young women to join her for a school lunch so that they could have the opportunity to ask questions. They were also invited to join the Sisters at San Xavier Convent for Prayer and Supper. Both the young women and the Sisters enjoyed the evening together. In our world today, it is a challenge to stay connected to a faith relationship with God.

Thanks to a generous donation, the students could travel to the Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity with Sister Mary Ann to experience a bit of the process of a young woman choosing to enter a Congregation and discern with them her vocation. This experience did a lot for our senior young women; they discovered that the life of a Franciscan Sister is filled with joy, simplicity, community, and sharing. They met many Sisters, enjoyed time with the Novices, prayed, and returned with an open heart. It is a great hope that this experience will stay with them as they enter adulthood and discern the direction of God's guidance for them. They would be lovely Sisters!
